Adventure Days When School Is Out
When school is out, the forest is in! Our PD Day and holiday camps give children a full day of outdoor adventure, exploration, and connection on days off from school. Instead of another day on screens, give your child a day of building, climbing, discovering, and making memories in nature.

A Day in the Forest
Every day is different, guided by the children's interests and nature's invitations. Here's a glimpse of how the magic unfolds.
9:00-9:30 AM
Gather and morning check-in with each child as they join us on the playground. Greetings, songs, and setting intentions for the day based on each child's needs, interests and curiosities.
9:30 AM
Child-led exploration begins. Building, climbing, creating, discovering, guided by curiosity and supported by educators.
Children eat when they're hungry, rest their bodies with quieter activities when they feel tired, listen to stories, and participate in play-based learning invitations as they choose throughout the day.
3:00-3:30 PM
We gather at the playground, share discoveries and gratitude and play until it is time to go home. Children depart calm, dirty, happy, and ready to tell you everything.

Common Questions
What if it rains or the weather is bad?
There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing! We provide a detailed gear list and are prepared for all conditions. In truly extreme weather (below -20 to -25C for example), we may need to cancel, but otherwise children often have their best adventures on 'challenging' weather days.
What about academics? Will my child fall behind?
Research consistently shows that play-based, outdoor learning enhances cognitive development, not hinders it. Our approach naturally incorporates literacy, numeracy, and scientific thinking. Children who learn through play develop stronger problem-solving skills and a genuine love of learning. In this environment, your child will be more likely to move ahead of their traditionally-schooled peers, than behind.
Is it safe? How do you manage risk?
Safety is our foundation. We maintain very small groups (maximum 8 children per educator), conduct thorough risk assessments of all areas, and are trained in outdoor first aid. We believe in 'risky play' (age-appropriate challenges that build confidence), not dangerous play.
What should my child bring?
We'll provide a complete gear list upon registration, but the basics include weather-appropriate layers, sturdy shoes, a packed lunch and snacks, and a water bottle. We provide all program materials.
Can I try it before committing?
Absolutely! We encourage families to book a visit first, or join one of our free Saturday morning community gatherings. There's no pressure. Just an opportunity to connect, play, enjoy the forest and ask any questions about our program. We want to make sure At Home in the Forest is the right fit for your family.
